We made pongal this year in a clay pot. It looked so traditional and cute. It is actually a custom in those days to do pongal only in a new pot and of course they did it in open with wood and fire , facing the sun. But nowadays that is not possible, at least not in city. At the most , we could do is to do the traditional pongal in a new clay pot. what say!!Wednesday, 25 January 2012

Funny but meaningfull moral story!
A little bird was flying south for the Winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field.
While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was.
The dung was actually thawing him out!He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.
A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.
Morals of the story:
(1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.
(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.
(3) And when you're in deep shit, it's best to keep your mouth shut!
How was it!!

One day my neighbour asked me whether I have a fish tank at home and whether I would like to have few fishes, since they are going to give them away. My son who was listening to this conversation got excited and pestered me to accept the fishes. So finally the fishes came to our home.
Now comes the purchasing of Fish tank, pebbles, decorative stuffs, net, food etc..... Finally that weekend , we finished the setup of Fishes and fish tank successfully.
The golden fishes were the highlight, they looked so beautiful, cute and bright. Both my kids had a good time watching them swim, eat, play and jump.
Of course this is a good pass time but takes away time when the cleaning part comes in. Yes, no pain - no gain.

Surprise ! Surprise!!
For a change I woke a bit early today. As I was walking towards the door to pick today's newspaper, I heard a slow knock on the door. I immediately opened the door and to my surprise it was a parrot. The cat which was about to attack it, was also surprised, seeing me it just ran away. Before I could understand the situation, the parrot ran past me and hid behind the Television stand. I locked the door and the windows and woke my two kids .Then went around the stand to see the parrot. It was not hurt but its wings have been cut. So it was clear that this bird must have been a pet and had escaped.
My kids couldn't control their excitement, they wanted to touch the bird but it was so scared that it stayed behind the stand and gave a small sound. After a long time, it came out and started looking around. We gave fruits and nuts for it to eat. Finally it settled itself in my bedroom and had a walk on the window grill, that is when we took a photo . The whole day ran very fast with this new arrival. By evening we got used to its presence and started off with our own day to day work.
Next day morning , our servant came with the news that one of our neighbours is looking out for a lost pet parrot. Oh no!! we all felt so sad to part with the new arrival to our home. I took the parrot myself and gave to my neighbour. She thanked me and said that, they had all decided that the parrot is gone for ever. I had a last look at the cute surprise , which I met yesterday.
My kids started pestering me to buy a new pet parrot but no, I don't like the concept of keeping birds in cages. A single day of surprise visit by a bird was more than enough for me, it was nice and exciting , that's alllllllllllllllllllllllll.

One day trip to Vedanthangal(Chennai)
Vedanthangal is a small bird sanctuary in Chennai (Tamilnadu). It was my son's decision that we go to Vedanthangal to see all those varieties of Birds. He wanted to go in November , but we finally made it in February. It was almost the end of the season, but still there were many birds. We went on Valentines day and seeing all those birds sitting in pairs was a beautiful sight. We couldn't find or distinguish the varieties of birds that easily , since most of them were white in colour. A few grey birds , a few black birds and a few ducks was what looked different. The boards helped us with the identification of the birds. For a one day trip, this was a real good one .On the way, we saw lots of goats, sheeps and cows, another entertainment for my younger son. All together , it was a wonderful trip.Wednesday, 17 February 2010

For now , the stuff that most interest me is Jewel making . This is a real good time pass, improves your creative thinking(actually I thought I had no such thing , before starting this), good for your pocket , if you could sell them and ofcourse good to wear your own creation or present them to your friends!!.
I learnt it from my neighbour (ofcourse paying a fees for that!!). She taught me how to make simple single line chains, double line chains, bracelets, anklets, rings, earrings, Mattal for earring, chutti for head and also bangles.
I first made a sample of all and then started doing my own creative stuff. Different combinations of stones and different patterns of connections etc.
The picture in this blog is a few of the single line chains that I made. How are they ??
I trust I will be able to continue this blog successfully. bye for now.
